Why you should cite?

 Citing

  • Give credit to those who had the idea
  • shows that you understand what authors have had to say about your topic
  • helps people find the sources that you used in case they want to read more about the topic
  • provides evidence for your arguments

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is presenting the words or ideas of someone else as your own without proper acknowledgment of the source. while working on a research paper you need to use supporting material from works by others, and to quote people and use their ideas, therefore you do need to credit them. Even when you summarize or paraphrase information found in books, articles, or Web pages, you must acknowledge the original author.
